The pianist, whose onstage comments showed flashes of droll wit a la Victor Borge, was very much an equal partner to St. John in the Beethoven sonata.
Richmond Times-Dispatch
March 20, 2000
St. John and Rechtman threw caution to the winds and completely immersed themselves in the piece, giving a reading of thrilling intensity that was full of risk-taking. The [Prokofieff] Sonata's towering dignity and pathos were fully evident; this was among the greatest performances I have heard of the work.
Joseph Magil, American Record Guide, May/June 1999
