Dear Lara,
I have purchased both your recordings some time ago, and I have eagerly awaited your next recording. Both your previous works are among some of my most prized recordings. Your "Bach Works" is a superb and I much prefer your interpretation to Pearlman's which in itself is no slouch.

As for "Gypsy" I find it magnificent. You are an incredible artist and talent. I would love to see you come and perform in the Utah area someday, but if not possible soon, I would travel to see you when you next might visit the intermountain west. say a Denver performance or Phoenix. Please do think about another recording, I'm sure many others await it.

Thank you

Howard

A word from the designer

Thanks for stopping by Lara's new website. I hope you will find the new design visually pleasing, easy to navigate and reasonably quick to download. But it's the content that counts, and I am confident you will find many amusing and titillating stories, not to mention pictures.

This site is designed to be the one stop for all things Lara. It will be constantly updated and expanded, so check back often.

The structure of the website is simple.
Each first page of a category serves as a portal, each subcategory has a pagefinder and go-back button on the upper left. This way you can always see where each page is derived from. Of course, you can always click the tab on top of any page to go to the first page of each category. The quick links drop-down box lists also a few sub categories (in alphabetical order) that are not listed on top of each page. I have decided not to add enlarged versions of the photos at this time.

This site was created with an Apple G3 computer, using Adobe GoLive 5 in conjunction with Adobe Photoshop 5.5, ImageReady 2.2 and Fetch 2.0. It was launched on February 14, 2001.

Last but not least, many thanks to Lara's friends, Sharon and Louise for their incredible typing, proofreading, editorial input, etc. And of course to Lara for her always crazy stories.

REVIEW OF THE DAY
Bach: The Concerto Album. Lara St. John, violin; with the New York Bach Ensemble. (Allegro 131)

Strings Magazine, May 2002

Lately, folks are starting to take Lara St. John—the Canadian-born violinist that Fashion Toronto once called a "six-foot amazon with the waist-length, honey-blonde tresses"—much more seriously. Of course, St. John, a shrewd marketer as well as a gifted performer, has caused a storm of controversy, posing nude on the cover of her debut CD (her breasts were obscured by the violin) and often making suggestive comments in the press. A recent review of this CD prompted Gramophone to scoff that St. John (who appears vamping in heavy makeup and see-through dress in a booklet fold-out on a poster-size pin up) "has no need to engage in such ignoble marketing ploys" while praising her "silvery" tone, "fleet tempos," and remarkable technique. St. John’s approach to these demanding works is a combination of supple grace and power. There is so much joy in St. John’s performance (she plays exquisitely on the 1779 "Salabue" Guadagnini known as The Resurrection) that it would be a shame to dismiss her for being crass or just too darn cute. r.
