b i o g r a p h y...........back to roster....up June 2012 Acclaimed as "a player of impressive authority and presence" (The Strad) and "one of the top violinists of tomorrow" (Diapason), 25-year-old Yossif Ivanov has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young violinists of today. At the age of 16 he won the First Prize at the Montreal International Competition, and 2 years later the Second Prize as well as the Public Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. Over the past seasons Yossif Ivanov has made acclaimed debuts in all major European halls, with orchestras such as the Montreal Symphony, London Philharmonic, Residentie Orchestra The Hague, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Lucerne Symphony, Sinfonia Varsovia, the Milano Verdi Orchestra, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Luxemburg Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Lille, Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, as well as all major Belgian orchestras. He collaborated with many noted conductors including Neëme Järvi, Marin Alsop, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Vladimir Jurowski, Kazushi Ono, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Philippe Herreweghe, Jaap Van Zweden, Jesus Lopez-Cobos, Ion Marin, Yuri Simonov, Louis Langrée and John Axelrod. In 2010 he took part in the North American tour of the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Vladimir Jurowski and made his Asian debut with the Malaysian Philharmonic and Singapore Symphony. Also in demand as a recitalist, Yossif Ivanov has been invited to play at the Menton and Montpellier festivals, Mozarteum Salzburg, Tokyo (Kichijoji Theatre) , Philharmonie Essen, Beethovenfest Bonn, the Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti Roma, Carnegie Hall (New York), and the Ladies Morning Musical Club in Montréal. Apart from his regular recital partner Itamar Golan, he collaborates with the pianists Ingrid Fliter, Frank Braley, David Kadouch and Plamena Mangova. Future orchestral projects include debuts with the Philharmonia Orchestra, as well as the City of Birmingham Symphony with the Bruch Concerto, Oregon Symphony with Dutilleux, the Polish Chamber Orchestra in Stuttgart with the Beethoven Concerto, and the Brno Philharmonic playing the Mendelssohn Concerto. In recital he will perform at the Montreal Chamber Music Society, Salzburg, Brussels (Bozar), as well as a tour in Italy with stops in Ravenna, Rome and Genova with Itamar Golan. Highlights for 11/12 included debuts with the Orchestra Sinfonica della RAI (Bartok), Vancouver Symphony (Mendelssohn), as well as return visits to the Brabants Orchestra (Bruch) and Orchestre National d'Ile de France (Brahms). His first CD-recording on the Ambroisie/Naïve label with sonatas by Franck, Ysaye and D'Haene was awarded a Diapason dOr de lAnnée. Both his concerto recordings, concertos by Bartok and Shostakovich as well as a Dutilleux CD, received high critical acclaim. Yossif Ivanov studied violin with Zakhar Bron, Igor & Valery Oistrakh and Augustin Dumay. Since 2008, he is the youngest violin faculty member at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels.
