Bach: The Concerto Album (Four Stars)

Two things about Lara St John have not changed in the last few years: she's hanging on to her teenage-floozy publicity image, and she still plays the dickens out of Bach.

This CD includes Bach's violin concertos in E and A minor, the double violin concerto in D minor and, as a bonus, a lovely reading of the Sonata in G minor, BWV 1001 for unaccompanied violin. The double concerto, played with brother Scott St John, is particularly nice, though some might find the interpretation a little breezy. The New York Bach Ensemble, presumably led by St John, provides very satisfactory accompaniments.

St. John has an entertaining and informative website, (www.larastjohn.com), but if you aren't wired, don't worry. Instead of a program booklet, this CD comes with a sultry fold-out St. John poster.
