Having whetted the appetite with a recital at the Cité de la Musique last October as part of a pan-European tour with Leif Ove Andsnes, Heinrich Schiff returned for a week-long residency at Radio France in early January. In the space of 4 days, he conducted a programme of Spohr, Mozart and Beethoven with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, appeared as soloist with the same orchestra (under the direction of Yutaka Sado) playing the Cerha Concerto, which he premiered at the Berliner Festwochen in 1998, and played a recital with Deszo Ränki.
As we go to press he returns to the LOS ANGELES PHILHARMONIC to conduct and play (two subscription weeks) and hot-foots it back to the BERLIN PHILHARMONIC to play Shostakovich with Oramo – who has invited him to join the City of Birmingham Symphony in the BBC Proms this Summer. This will precede a European tour with the same forces.
