Intermusicas other new soloist is the 24-year-old Canadian virtuoso violinist James Ehnes. He has performed with most of the major North American orchestras: Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Detroit, Houston, St. Paul, Cincinnati, Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal, with conductors such as Ashkenazy, Andrew Davis, Dutoit, Ivan Fischer, Graf, Robertson, Saraste, Thielemann, and Weil.
Recent European and Asian concert engagements include appearances with the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester (Berlin), the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Finnish Radio Orchestra, the NHK Symphony (Tokyo), the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra and the Saarlaendischer Rundfunk.
An avid recitalist, Ehnes has played in all of the major Canadian cities, Paris and Washington and at major international festivals. As a chamber musician he has performed throughout North America and Europe, collaborating with such artists as Leif Ove Andsnes, Louis Lortie and Yo-Yo Ma.
Recordings include Prokofievs Two Sonatas and Five Melodies with pianist Wendy Chen (Analekta) and the 24 Paganini Caprices (Telarc), for which Ehnes became the youngest classical artist ever nominated for a Juno Award (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy). His recording of Bachs Six Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin (Analekta) won a 2001 Juno Award for the Best Classical Album Solo or Chamber Ensemble James Ehnes
now consolidates his position as one of the most talented string players of the younger generation
(International Record Review). Other recent releases include a CBC recording of Bruchs Concertos nos. 1 & 3 with Dutoit and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. |
