The major acquisition of legendary violinist Midori for European representation to our roster has been hugely welcomed by all involved with Intermusica, for not only is Midori one of the great artists of the day but she is also a person of extraordinarily wide-ranging interests and vision. Apart from her career as a major international soloist, she is a dedicated student of Psychology at New York University and seven years ago created the Midori Foundation (Midori & Friends), a non-profit organisation that provides concerts, music education and instrument instruction to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity for direct involvement in the arts. She devotes a significant part of each season to education work in select New York City public elementary schools as well as in Japan.
Her performing schedule, balanced between recitals with her long-time duo partner Robert McDonald and performances with the leading orchestras and conductors throughout the world, takes her annually to the leading concert halls of the United States, Europe and the Far East. Chamber music has also become an equally important part of her musical existence. Recording exclusively for Sony Classical, Midoris unique talents and lively personality have brought her wide recognition in the media with frequent worldwide TV broadcasts including appearances on The Tonight Show and Sesame Street as well as an extraordinary list of major awards and prizes throughout the world. And as witness to her continuing remarkable high standards, her last two recital programmes on both sides of the Atlantic earlier this season in superbly balanced programmes have received some of the greatest acclaim of her career. Indeed, it is the extraordinary balance to her career in the context of her life as academic student and educator that is the guarantor of this artists continuing growth and importance on the world stage.
