MacMillan conducts premiere of his Second Symphony
In December James MacMillan conducted the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in the world premiere of his Symphony No 2 in Ayr, in a programme alongside Stravinsky’s Dumbarton Oaks, followed by concerts in Glasgow and Edinburgh. MacMillan was nominated for a 1999 South Bank Show Classical Music Award for this piece (together with the performance of his Quickening at the Proms). The Orchestra and composer subsequently re-united in February to record the Second Symphony for BIS, along with MacMillan’s Sinfonietta and Cumnock Fair.

Veni, Veni, Emmanuel, MacMillan’s ever-popular percussion concerto, recently had its 200th performance!
