The London Symphony Chorus has played a key role in Sir Colin Davis Berlioz Odyssey with the LSO, which has so far included Benvenuto Cellini, Lenfance du Christ and Romeo et Juliette. The journey resumes in June with Beatrice et Benedict and will reach a climax in September when the Chorus will swell its ranks to 350 singers for the Te Deum.
The Chorus also gave a thrilling a cappella performance in March in the Barbican as part of the LSOs series. The programme included choruses from John Adams The Death of Klinghoffer, songs and choruses by Aaron Copland, folksong settings by Percy Grainger and a specially commissioned new work by Jonathan Dove entitled The Passing of the Year. Following their stunning performance of Messiaens monumental La Transfiguration de Notre Seigneur Jesus Christ with the LSO and Kent Nagano in 1998, the Chorus was invited to perform the same work in Paris with Nagano and the Orchestre de Paris this Easter.
