Richard Goode and Mitsuko Uchida have been named as Artistic Directors of the Marlboro Music School and Festival (Vermont, USA), one of the oldest and most renowned international chamber music festivals.
Goode first attended Marlboro as a teenager in the late 1950s, and was invited to return in 1992 following the death of Rudolf Serkin, Artistic Director for four decades. Goode has participated each summer since then, serving for the last five years on the Committee for Artistic Direction (with Uchida and, for three years, Andras Schiff). During that time, the Committee revitalised the resident composers programme, lieder sessions, seminars and lectures, and invited artists with new and diverse musical voices, while maintaining Marlboros unique structure, standards of artistic excellence, and family atmosphere. The Festival celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2000.
