Intermusica is pleased to announce exclusive worldwide management of conductor / composer James MacMillan. One of todays most successful living composers, MacMillans major works include The Confession of Isobel Gowdie, premiered at the BBC Proms in 1990, Veni, Veni, Emmanuel, the percussion concerto written for Evelyn Glennie, The Worlds Ransoming, commissioned by the London Symphony Orchestra, a cello concerto for Mstislav Rostropovich and the music-theatre piece Búsqueda. He has been a featured composer at the Edinburgh, Huddersfield and Bergen Festivals and was the focus of the South Bank Centres Raising Sparks festival in 1997.
MacMillans conducting activities have included the Philharmonia, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, London Sinfonietta, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, London Chamber Orchestra, Paragon Ensemble and the Hebrides Ensemble, and he has also led some of his own works on several BMG recordings.
For a composer barely in his thirties to emerge as a star in an international symphony concert, not just for his music but for his conducting too, is a formidable achievement. On this showing he is a natural on the rostrum, stirring the Philharmonia players not just to play with precision but to give of their hearts. The Guardian
MacMillan holds titles with several major UK orchestras: Visiting Composer of The Philharmonia, Affiliate Composer of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and Artistic Director of the Royal Scottish National Orchestras Discovery Series.
This represents another significant development for Intermusica in the field of contemporary music, in which we have already been working on exciting and varied projects for HK Gruber as composer, conductor and chansonnier. MacMillan is one of the most remarkable composers now before the public and the development of his performing activities is guaranteed to build on his already high profile around the world.
