Chilies at the cutting edge
At this Summer’s Cheltenham Festival the Chilingirian Quartet will premiere a new work written for them by Hugh Wood for string quartet and string orchestra.

The Quartet’s association with Wood stretches back 25 years, and they have recorded all his quartets for Conifer (the last of which was also written for them). Matthias Bamert will conduct the London Mozart Players in the performance of this new work by one of Britain’s most respected composers.

The Quartet’s leader, Levon Chilingirian, has produced a new, revised edition of Grieg’s Unfinished Quartet in F major, having researched the original sketches. The Chilingirian will give the world premiere of this new edition in Grieg’s house in Troldhaugen as part of the Bergen Festival in May. A CD of both Grieg’s string quartets will be released to coincide with the concert, followed immediately by the London premiere at the Wigmore Hall in early June.
