Frank Peter Zimmermann began 1998 in the USA, with a "magnificent performance" of Shostakovich's First Violin Concerto with the Pittsburgh Symphony under Mariss Jansons and with Bernard Haitink and the Boston Symphony, followed by a tour playing the Berg Concerto with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Riccardo Chailly including performances in Chicago and New York (Lincoln Center). Following performances of the Britten Concerto with Richard Hickox and the BBC Philharmonic in March, he returns to the USA in April to play the Britten with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Wolfgang Sawallisch, including a concert at New York's Carnegie Hall. His current repertoire is not confined to the 20th century, however - April also sees performances in the Royal Festival Hall with the London Philharmonic of Mozart's Fourth Violin Concerto, and he's back at the Proms again this summer.
