Stanislaw Skrowaczewski has long been regarded as one of the finest Bruckner conductors of the day, and his interpretations have earned him the Gold Medal of the Mahler-Bruckner Society.
After his recent Nullte (Symphony No. 0) in Vienna the critic from the Wiener Zeitung wrote "Skrowaczewski has Bruckner in his blood and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in the palm of his hand." Reference Records has recently released Bruckner's Ninth, recorded by Skrowaczewski and the Minnesota Orchestra in November 1996. On his European tour this May he will conduct Bruckner's Third with the excellent Polish Radio orchestra in Katowice, Poland and the Nullte again in Cologne with the Gürzenich Orchestra.
Another composer featuring as regularly as Bruckner in Skrowaczewski programmes is Shostakovich, whose First Symphony he performs in four concerts with the San Francisco Symphony on April 1/2/3/4, with Pinchas Zukerman playing Elgar's Violin Concerto.
Skrowaczewski still makes time for composition and he conducted his most recent work Passacaglia with the BBC Symphony Orchestra on his last UK visit in November.
