Following his hugely successful performance of Mendelssohns St Paul with BBCNOW at the Proms this Summer, Richard Hickox conducted his first concert of the season as the Orchestra's Principal Conductor in St David's Hall., Cardiff - Gershwin: Porgy & Bess and Tippett: Child of our Time. Hickox devotes 13 weeks to the Orchestra this season, including 3 concerts at the Barbican, 2 London BBC Proms and several recordings for Chandos, in addition to commitments in Wales. 2001/2 sees UK and German tours with the Orchestra.
Allied to the grandeur of it all, there was terrific vitality under the baton of Richard Hickox, who also appreciated the significance of Mendelssohns more subtle touches.
