1999 Gramophone Award nominations were received for Richard Hickoxs Vaughan Williams Symphony No 5 and choral works by Grainger (both on Chandos), Richard Goodes Mozart concertos K 271 & K 503 with Orpheus (Nonesuch) and Handels Solomon with the Gabrieli Consort & Players conducted by Paul McCreesh and featuring counter-tenor Andreas Scholl (Deutsche Grammophon).

Just in time for the Kurt Weill Centenary comes a new recording of Die Dreigroschenoper from BMG with HK Gruber conducting Ensemble Modern and singing the role of Mr Peachum. The disc is certain to be a definitive version of the work, sung by an outstanding German cast. Also released on BMG recently is the first-ever recording of Weills Der Silbersee, on which Gruber sings the role of Olim with the London Sinfonietta conducted by Markus Stenz.
Chandos has released Richard Hickoxs recording of Edmund Rubbras Symphonies No 5 & 8 with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the final disc in the highly regarded series of Rubbra Symphonies. The disc also features mezzo-soprano Susan Bickley in the first-ever recording of Ode to the Queen, a short occasional work which was commissioned by the BBC to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
In November EMI will release the latest disc by the Choir of Kings College, Cambridge - a brand-new digital recording of the famous Nine Lessons & Carols service, recorded live in the Chapel of King's. The Choir has also recently recorded a double CD of music by J.S. Bach with the Academy of Ancient Music.

Recorded live at the Saratoga Festival (the Philadelphia Orchestras Summer home), EMI has released a disc including an electric performance of Bartoks Contrasts (Michael Collins, Martha Argerich and Chantal Juillet) and Prokofiev's less frequently played Quintet for violin (Isabelle van Keulen) and winds.
