The music of Ernest Chausson is featured on two recent Hyperion discs by the Chilingirian Quartet. Included is the Concert and the first recording of Poeme, Op 25 with Philippe Graffin and Pascal Devoyon, in the first recording of the arrangement by the composer. "These accounts traverse the gamut of emotions, bristling with energy, lyricism and conviction, and ensuring that this disc will never gather much dust." (BBC Music Magazine)
Naxos has recently released Colin Currie's interpretation of MacMillan's Veni, Veni, Emmanuel with the Ulster Orchestra ("Best of the Week" The Scotsman). The recording comes close on the heels of Currie's recital CD on the EMI Debut Series: Striking a Balance: Contemporary Percussion Music - featuring works by Corea, Ravel, Bach, Reich and others. "A well-thought-out and beautifully recorded album." (Gramophone)
Matthias Bamert has two world-premiere recordings among his recent releases for Chandos: symphonies by Gossec (as part of his Contemporaries of Mozart series) with the London Mozart players, and Gerhard's "Pedrell" symphony and Harpsichord Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra / Geoffrey Tozer.

"This goes far beyond musical conversation, into an intense exploration of how a phrase builds tension, how the sustaining of a note can alter the inflection of a melodic line... There is a sense that all involved have sat down to play chamber music suffused with excitement and delight." So wrote Mary Miller in The Daily Telegraph in June, when Richard Goode's latest Mozart concerto instalment with Orpheus (K 503 and K 271) was named "Classical CD of the Week."
