Erika Miklosa, soprano |
b i o g r a p h y...........back to roster....up May 2012 Erika Miklosa originally was going to be an athlete and was training for the heptathlon, but an injury forced her to change career paths. She started performing at family gatherings, weddings and formal celebrations. On one occasion, a singing-teacher heard her and almost immediately began to teach the 16-year-old Erika. She entered and won first prize at the International Mozart competition. As a result, she was hired by the Hungarian State Opera Company. At the age of 19, she became the youngest opera singer ever to be inducted. Miklosa has studied in Milan and in the US, has performed the 'Queen of the Night' (Mozart: The Magic Flute) nearly 300 times and the role has become a trademark of hers, as she is requested to sing this role everywhere - Berlin, Paris, Madrid, London, New York, San Francisco, etc. In the summer of 2012, she makes her Ravinia Festival debut as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Sold out performances and huge successes are characteristics of her career, but despite all she prefers the quiet country life of the Hungarian Bakony mountain region. In fact, she regularly holds exercise classes for the women of the village, as movement and exercise are key to her healthy life. Erika says, 'Even though I switched career paths I am still a sportsman at heart. Every performance is like a race, where I have to win and perform to my very best.' . |
